To smuggle fugitives… UAE elements storm Yemeni Socotra Airport
The Yemeni governor of Socotra Ramzi Mahrous announced in an urgent note addressed to Yemeni President Abd Rabuh Mansour Hadi, that Emirati elements stormed the governorate’s airport, and smuggled fugitive elements.
Mahrous said in the memo that was circulated in the Yemeni media, “We report to you that Emirati elements who are still carrying out activities under a humanitarian cover in the governorate have entered force by entering the Socotra airport, taking with them elements of Socotra from their collaborators, and they boarded the Emirati plane without permission from the tower and who Without taking the usual security measures to take off as usual.
Mahrous added, “It became clear that the purpose of this provocative act that they exploited their elements is to smuggle a number of their wanted followers to the security authorities in relation to issues related to destabilizing security in the province and imposing chaos and not being subject to formal procedures in entering and leaving the country through visas.”
He continued, “this intrusion and penetration took place while securing the airport for the siblings in the Saudi duty forces in conjunction with the airport security of the first brigade, marine viewers.”
Last November, the Executive Office of the Governorate of Socotra Archipelago rejected what he called “the exploitation of some of the agencies working in Socotra humanitarian work, in violation of the system and applicable law and internationally recognized” (referring to the Khalifa Foundation for Humanity and the Emirati Red Crescent working in the island) .
And Socotra, is the largest island in the archipelago of the same name, consisting of 6 islands, and occupies a strategic location in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of the Horn of Africa, near the Gulf of Aden.
The UAE ambitions did not stop on the Yemeni island of Socotra, which has a strategic and historical position, and it has endeavored to organize various conspiracies aimed at seizing the island and forcibly annexing it to its sovereignty.
Last month, the Emirates sparked sedition in Socotra through demonstrations and military moves that it finances for its armed militias, allegedly demonstrating against the Al-Jazeera Governorate Ramzi Mahrous as a punishment for the refusal of the UAE to control Emirati control.
Residents of the island supported its governor with mass demonstrations in the past two days in front of the headquarters of the Saudi-Emirati coalition in the city of “Hadibu” to support the legitimate government and support Mahrous.
On the other hand, the UAE has staged demonstrations for supporters of the Southern Transitional Council, backed by Abu Dhabi, to demand the dismissal of the governor.
The demonstrators chanted slogans during which they affirmed their support for the legitimate government and state institutions, as well as their rejection of Abu Dhabi’s plans on the island, and the practices of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, which they said aimed at cultivating the social divide on the island.
The protesters also held up banners condemning the transitional council’s attempt to control state institutions by force of arms, and plunging their island into a wave of violence and chaos.
Governor Mahrous joined the demonstrations, and confirmed – in a speech to him – Socotra’s cohesion against everyone who wants to tamper with the security of the island, and said that they will be like one body within the framework of the state and against violence.
For his part, member of the Southern National Coalition, Ahmed Jamaan, said during the demonstrations that they are committed to the state and the legitimate government, and held the UAE responsible for sowing discord, supporting chaos and forcing the societal fabric of Socotra.
Socotra is considered the most important natural reserve in the country, but it faces an increase in the risks of its graduation from the World Heritage List due to the absurd practices of the Emirates.
