The International Campaign to Boycott the Emirates (ICBU) said that the United Arab Emirates is deceiving and misleading about declaring the return of its forces from Yemen, which Abu Dhabi has been waging a criminal war since 2015.

The Paris-based international campaign warned the international community not to deal with the UAE’s stated narration in light of Abu Dhabi’s attempts to evade its involvement in war crimes and pressure it to end its interference in Yemen.

In this regard, ICBU highlighted the announcement of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed, on his Twitter account that his forces will remain in Yemen, confirming that they “remain a bond and help to the brother in maintaining the security and stability of our region.”

She pointed out that this announced Emirati military withdrawal from Yemen is not the first of its kind. For months, the Emiratis spoke in statements and leaks about a withdrawal and sometimes about repositioning their forces in Yemen.

The international campaign warned that what is actually taking place is a “redeployment” plan for the Emirates in Yemen for strategic and tactical reasons, especially Abu Dhabi still retaining some of its military brigades and its control of vital facilities in the country, as well as deepening its link and control over a number of armed military militias that It represents a striking force in southern Yemen.

Lieutenant General Isa Saif bin Ablan Al-Mazroughi, Deputy Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces – whom the official Emirates News Agency described as the joint commander for joint operations in Yemen – boasted that Abu Dhabi had recruited more than 200,000 fighters as an outlaw militia in Yemen.

This shows that the UAE is adopting a media, not military, exit strategy from Yemen, as what took place is merely an exodus for some of the Emirati military sectors, with funding, elites and their belts remaining in light of the total absence of legitimate authority, according to the international campaign.

The international campaign recalled the Yemeni government’s complaint before the UN Security Council on August 20 last year over the UAE’s support for the militias of the southern transitional council’s coup against the legitimate government in the temporary capital, Aden.

The International Campaign to Boycott the Emirates (ICBU) called for serious and effective international pressure on the Emirates to end its war completely on Yemen and to end the financing of armed militias that are entities parallel to the authority of the legitimate government in the country.

The campaign also urged the imposition of international sanctions on the UAE against the background of its war crimes committed against civilians in Yemen, including imposing a comprehensive boycott on it and stopping any sales of weapons and military equipment to Abu Dhabi as a victory for the Yemeni victims.

It is noteworthy that the international campaign to boycott the Emirates was launched in 2017 in light of the endless violations of human rights practiced by the UAE, in addition to the war crimes committed in Yemen and violations of the rights of workers, in addition to the fact that the UAE is the center of modern slavery.
