A recently released book exposed the escape of the daughter of the Emirati Deputy Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid, Princess Latifa, from Dubai years ago.
The book titled The Princess’s Escape highlights that Sheikha Latifa spent seven years planning her giant escape from her father’s palace, the ruler of Dubai before a commando force attacked her yacht, through which she tried to escape in 2018.
The book explained that the 32-year-old Sheikha Latifa had not seen for years since the yacht’s seizure on which she escaped, and she was arrested 30 miles off the Indian coast in March.
The book narrates the testimony of Tina Jauhiainen, a friend of Sheikha Latifa since 2010 when the Emirati family hired her as a martial arts instructor and later tried to help her escape.
Jauhiainen had worked in Dubai for nearly 20 years and did not hesitate for a moment when her best friend Princess Latifa asked her for help.
Latifa was forced to abstain from the whims and the physical imprisonment similar to that imposed on her tyrannical father, Mohammed bin Rashid.
Latifa was ready to trade her luxurious and abundant life for the one thing she didn’t have: freedom. The meticulously planned escape of friends across the Indian Ocean took them on a small boat, and during that trip, there were moments when Tina was sure she would lose both of their lives.
The Princess Escape is the story of a daring, defiant bid for freedom that culminates in the capture of friends off the Indian coast by Indian and Emirati special forces.
Latifa disappeared without while Tina was interrogated in a secret prison for two weeks, with her life threatened. The disappearance of the two women attracted the world’s media.
Public pressure and behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts by the Finnish government helped free Tina Jauhiainen, but nothing was heard from Latifa for more than two years.
The last words of the security police who accompanied Tina Jauhiainen to Dubai airport, with a one-way ticket to London, stuck in her mind: “You know that Princess Diana’s death was not a coincidence.”
The book also highlights the status of women in the United Arab Emirates and tells the story of the battle with international dimensions that Tina continued to fight to free her friend.
Two BBC documentaries have been broadcast on the fate of Latifa and Tina Jauhiainen and the nefarious behaviour of Mohammed bin Rashid, who was once a friend of the British royal family but is now an outcast from elite British circles.
