UAE film whitewashes China on the ruins of a Syrian region destroyed by Bashar al-Assad’s regime

A few days ago, the project of filming the movie Home Operation, produced by the Emirati and supervised by the famous Chinese actor Jackie Chan, was launched in cooperation with the government of the Syrian regime in the Al-Hajar Al-Aswad area in the capital, Damascus.

The film is a Chinese-Emirati project that revolves around the process of evacuating Chinese citizens, foreigners and diplomats during the war that began in Yemen in 2015.

According to (Digital Studio Me), the film revolves around the director Song Yinxi at an early stage of the civil war in a Middle Eastern country, in 2015, during which China was working to evacuate more than 600 Chinese citizens, in addition to more than 200 citizens from other countries during that time. Period.

The website (IMDB), which specializes in films and series, said that the story was inspired by true events of the emergency evacuation of Chinese and foreign citizens and diplomats during the war in Yemen in 2015.

Footage from the film’s shooting in Syria was broadcast between the destroyed houses and rubble blocks in the Al-Hajar Al-Aswad area in the Syrian capital, Damascus, which was previously subjected to intense bombardment.

The video footage of the start of filming shows a group of actors in military uniforms with several tanks and armoured vehicles between houses and neighbourhoods destroyed as a result of the previous bombing.

Filming the scenes of the film aroused the anger of the Syrians on the platforms because the Chinese company chose a Syrian area that was destroyed by the Syrian regime – as they described it – to film their scenes, considering it “a mockery of the Syrians’ blood.”

Others said that the company chose to shoot scenes in Syria as it was ready to be filmed not to cost the decorations of destruction and others.

With the beginning of the departure of areas south of Damascus from the control of the Syrian regime forces starting at the end of 2011, the Al-Hajar Al-Aswad area, which is adjacent to the south of the Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees, was among the first areas that the regime forces had to leave.

This came under the pressure of popular demonstrations and some local armed men, a position that the city is still paying the price for so far within the framework of the Syrian regime’s retaliatory policy against the areas that revolted against it.

As for the residents, the Syrian regime forces deliberately destroyed the area to prevent the return of its half-million residents under the pretext of fighting ISIS, which took control of the area starting in 2015.

Even though it was subject to a tight siege by regime forces starting in mid-2013, it raises suspicions about how ISIS fighters infiltrated the area amid the siege.

The filming of the Emirati-Chinese movie recently provoked sarcastic reactions among the residents, while they hoped that the film would not include scenes of destruction and bombing so that the few remaining houses that were not destroyed would be destroyed.
