Doubts about UAE’s transparency regarding numbers of people infected with the Coronavirus

The UAE is being subjected to widespread criticism regarding its transparency of transferring the numbers of people infected with the emerging coronavirus, especially from the nationalities of other countries.

Activists warn of the UAE authorities’ silence on the nature of the virus outbreak in the country, due to tourism considerations and the preparations for the World Expo to be held in Dubai after months.

Criticism escalated after Sudan recorded five cases of citizens from Abu Dhabi, which raised questions about the true number of people in the UAE infected with the coronavirus.

Activists in Sudan said that the UAE must fulfill its legal and moral responsibility by not retaining the true numbers it has so that other countries can tighten precautions in dealing with them.

For its part, the Ministry of Health and Community Protection in the UAE announced in its latest update that it had monitored 664 new cases of Coronavirus, which it said had been identified by examining contacts of previously announced infections, and they were not committed to preventive measures and physical distance, in addition to cases related to travel abroad.

For its part, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority decided to stop all maritime transport services until the end of April 30, 2020, as part of the preventive measures taken to limit the spread of the new Corona virus (Covid-19).

The authority also suspended the service of the Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram, during the extension of the “national sterilization”, which starts from 8 pm until 6 am, local time.

She pointed out that the service returns to all modes of mass transportation, as usual, after work.

In the same context, the authority announced that public buses would operate according to the usual schedule, while a fleet of 74 buses would operate on 13 major lines that reach 19 hospitals across the emirate.

On Saturday, the UAE authorities extended the night curfew until April 5 in order to sterilize public places to combat the Corona virus.

The UAE started the sterilization campaign, which is carried out between eight in the evening and six in the morning every day on March 26 and was scheduled to end yesterday.
