CNN quoted a source in the UAE government as confirming that the White House would host a meeting between representatives of the United Arab Emirates and Israel last December.

The source did not reveal the content of the meeting, while Israeli officials declined to comment on the matter.

“Axios” was the first to publish a report on the meeting and conveyed statements from US officials who said that the talks were held to coordinate the political position against Iran.

Washington did not confirm that the meeting took place or reveal details about it, as an American official said: “While the United States encourages the expansion of relations between our major allies and our partners in the Middle East, we will not reveal details about private diplomatic negotiations, and we have nothing to announce,” as he says.

The UAE and Israel do not have diplomatic ties, but the past period has witnessed an unprecedented escalation in the pace of normalization between the UAE and Israel.

This includes the visit of the Israeli Minister of Culture, Miri Regev, to Abu Dhabi in October 2018, and the visit of the Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, to the UAE capital last summer.

Along with his Omani and Bahraini counterparts, the Emirati ambassador to America, US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced details of Trump’s Middle East peace plan at the White House, last week.

And media reports that reveal more secret meetings between the countries of the UAE and Israel, in light of an unprecedented escalation of the pace of normalization between them, including the near signing of a bilateral non-aggression treaty.

The American Axios website said that a secret American-Israeli-tripartite meeting was held late last year on coordination against Iran, and at the same time dealt with the normalization of relations between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv.

The website quoted Israeli and American officials as saying that the meeting that took place last December 17 in the White House is part of a series of steps by the administration of US President Donald Trump to facilitate relations between Israel and the Arab countries.
