Libya complains to HRC of UAE’s funding of incitement in the country
Libya has complained to the UN Human Rights Council that the UAE has been involved in financing incitement and promoting millions of dollars in hate speech in the country.
The head of Libya’s “Tabawi Congress” party, Issa Abdel Meguid, presented at a hearing at the High Council for Human Rights in Geneva, a certificate about the UAE’s provision of $74 million to support the hate speech in Libya.
The Tabawi Congress is a political party established in 2016. One of its goals is to defend Libya’s Tabu minority at home and abroad and to guarantee its rights and has nothing to do with the Tabu minority in other countries.
UN reports indicate that Haftar built his armies with the help of the UAE and Egypt, which supplied him with heavy equipment such as helicopters.
Two days ago, Libya’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadiq al-Ghariyani said countries, led by the United Arab Emirates, which backs war criminal Khalifa Haftar, were the Zionist allies from the West and supervisors of normalization with them and that they were guarded by Arabs.
Al-Ghuriani said during his weekly interview that the bombing by UAE drones and others is repeated every day and targets airports and civilian sites in Libya.
“When will practical measures be taken to deter these countries that support aggression, such as cutting off cooperation and relations with them?”
Al-Gharyani confirmed that Haftar had violated the legitimacy five years ago, and that he had killed and displaced tens of thousands of the oppressed, and took their homes and money.
In a related context, the UAE continues to support Haftar politically as well as support with money and military equipment, by trying to promote internationally to serve conspiracies targeting Libya.
The US embassy in Libya announced that Ambassador Richard Norland met on Thursday the retired Libyan Major General Khalifa Haftar in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi.
The two men discussed the current situation in Libya and the possibility of reaching a political solution to the ongoing conflict in the country.
The press office of Haftar’s forces said in a press statement that Haftar met with the US ambassador in the framework of discussing “the military situation in Libya and the armed forces’ war on terrorism and to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.”
Abu Dhabi continues to support General Haftar against the internationally recognized Libyan Government of National Accord, which has been leading a months-long assault on the capital Tripoli.
Haftar’s forces, despite Emirati and Egyptian support for his forces, have so far failed to make any progress toward the Libyan capital, and his militias have suffered heavy losses of life and equipment.
Earlier this month, the Presidential Council of the Libyan National Accord government denounced the UAE’s permission for Ahmed Mismari, spokesman for retired Major General Khalifa Haftar, to hold a press conference in the capital Abu Dhabi.
In a statement, the Presidential Council described Abu Dhabi as allowing Haftar’s spokesman to hold his conference as a “hostile position.” The council said that this position indicates that the UAE is allowing its capital to be a media platform for the militias who attacked Tripoli.
