Expo Dubai: failure and disappointment after weak economic returns

Dubai concluded the activities of the Expo-2020 exhibition, which spanned over 6 months, amid a harvest of failure and disappointment from the weak economic returns.

According to observers, the exhibition failed to achieve the announced number before its establishment, attracting 25 million visitors, according to official figures issued by Dubai, which speak of less than 23 million visitors, a questionable number.

The exhibition was launched in early October, and it was the first time that the global event was held in the Middle East in an attempt by the UAE to improve its tarnished reputation.

The media and propaganda machine of the Emirates intensified the promotion of the Dubai Expo event at its conclusion in a scandalous attempt to cover up the failures and failures.

The official Emirati media claimed that the Expo 2020 Dubai activities, in which 191 countries participated, represented a milestone in Abu Dhabi’s March in strategic gains.

The Emirates News Agency, WAM, went as far as to display the fake gains that the UAE achieved from the Expo, which was disposed of as soft power!

The UAE handed over the Expo banner, marking the event’s move to its next stop, the Japanese city of Osaka, in 2025.

A recently leaked official document revealed that the Dubai Expo constituted the most significant economic and commercial loss for the UAE due to the widespread boycott, which led to a significant failure to achieve the desired profits.

A leaked document from the Executive Director of the Expo, addressed to Reem Al-Hashemi, Director-General of the Expo, indicates the failure of Emirati plans and expectations for the exhibition.

According to the document, the expectations of the UAE regarding the number of visitors to the exhibition reaching 25 million people have not been fulfilled so far, with the attendance of only 5 million and 60 thousand visitors and the active and active presence of 78 countries with their various scientific and industrial programs. The presence of the rest of them was formally touristic.

The document confirmed that the payment process for 43% of the deals was implemented outside the UAE through banks of other countries instead of electronic payment gates at Expo sponsored by the UAE banking system and indicates the imbalance between Expo’s costs and income and profit lists.

Total income decreased by 57% compared to expectations until the end of March. The document confirmed that the profits and incomes of China, Japan, Germany and France – as exemplary models – from the specialized wings amounted to many times the net income earned by the UAE.
