The International Campaign to Boycott the Emirates (ICBU) today condemned the UAE’s candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for the period 2022 – 2023, and demanded its abolition.

The Paris-based international campaign said in a press statement that it condemned the Asia-Pacific Group countries’ support of UAE’s candidacy for non-permanent membership in the Security Council.

ICBU emphasized that such a step is a misplaced reward in the light of UAE’s violations internally and externally and constitutes a blow to the principles of security and stability and the conditions for membership of international bodies, particularly the Security Council.

While the Security Council is an indispensable platform for resolving conflicts and promoting stability and security for all, the UAE is one of the most prominent countries that contribute to spreading chaos, sabotage, and undermining the stability of countries, ICBU pointed out.

UAE, with its war in Yemen and its military intervention in Libya and other countries, violates of the Charter of the United Nations and efforts to bring peace, in contravention of the obligations of the member states of the Asia-Pacific Group and the countries of the world as a whole.

ICBU stressed that the UAE violates the policies of the United Nations Charter and the efforts to consolidate peace in the Arab region, as well as its black record on the principle of inclusiveness and terrorist financing in addition to its violations of human rights and the status of women.

ICBU called the Asia-Pacific Group to reconsider the decision to nominate the UAE for non-permanent membership in the Security Council and not to reward Abu Dhabi for its crimes in light of its repeated condemnation in the United Nations reports, whether in Yemen, Libya, or other countries.
