During Israel’s conflict with Gaza six months ago, the UAE allegedly contributed to Palestinian deaths by providing large land supplies to Israel while claiming to aid famine relief efforts in Gaza.
Palestinian reports indicate that UAE planes mistakenly killed seven civilians and wounded others over the past 48 hours while attempting humanitarian aid deliveries in Gaza City. This comes as Israel’s alleged genocide persists for the sixth consecutive month, exacerbating the famine crisis.
According to the “Quds Daily” website, the UAE planes used parachutes that were disproportionate to the weight of the aid that was dropped, which caused martyrs and injuries.
Medical sources reported that the martyrs who died in the aid drop incident were: Ibrahim Kamel Hussein Abu Qadous, Youssef Iyad Asalia, Hamouda Nasser Marshoud, Walid Hatem Al-Nabih, Hatem Youssef Al-Nabih, Firas Wael Abu Wardeh, and Sami Kamel Dabour.
Local sources and eyewitnesses confirmed that a heavy “mishtah” fell on top of the victims while aid was being unloaded at the Haidar roundabout area, west of Gaza City.
The military correspondent of the Israeli Kan channel and a reliable source tracking the movement of aircraft in the Israeli area confirmed that the incident was caused by Emirati aircraft.
Footage shows the aid dropped by a C-17 Globemaster plane falling very quickly, without landing slowly, directly hitting the Palestinians waiting for the aid.
This plane is owned by the United States, and a few countries in the region, including the UAE, which used it in a landing operation from Al-Arish Airport.
The video footage reveals that a portion of the aid was scattered in the air and landed on the heads of individuals awaiting assistance, further worsening the plight of those desperate for food amid the harsh starvation imposed by the occupation forces.
Footage of the boxes that fell in northwest Gaza clearly shows the “Emirati Aid” logo and the UAE flag.
Jordanian and American aircraft, along with planes from Egypt, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, are all involved in the humanitarian aid landing operation.
A US defense official told AFP: “The United States was not the cause of the deaths that occurred during the airdrop operation we carried out in Gaza.”
The rest of the participating countries did not clarify whether their aid caused the incident.
The Joint Operations Command of the UAE Ministry of Defense announced the implementation of a fifth drop of humanitarian and relief aid, by aircraft of the UAE Air Force and aircraft of the Air Force of the Arab Republic of Egypt over the northern Gaza Strip.
The official Emirates News Agency reported that the fifth drop operation was conducted by combined crews from both countries, using planes transporting 62 tons of food and medical assistance to northern Gaza.
The UAE did not clarify whether the operation was marred by any defect during the aid drop.
The Gaza government’s media office stated that indiscriminate humanitarian aid airdrops are ineffective and not the optimal method for delivering assistance.
The media office stated that some of the aid is dropped into the sea, while another portion lands close to the separation barrier or in areas controlled by the occupying army, within the occupied Palestinian territories.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of civilian victims, most of them children and women, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure, which led to Israel being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide.
