UAE turns itself into a propaganda Haftar favors

In the last two days, the UAE has dedicated its sabotage role in Libya to serve its conspiracies to spread chaos and sabotage in the country and its official patronage of Khalifa Haftar militias by supporting it with money and weapons and even providing a media platform.

The victories of the Libyan army led by the Government of National Accord (GNA), forced  Ahmed al-Mesmari, a militia spokesman, to appear urgently at a press conference in Abu Dhabi to cover developments in the field, an appearance that bore many connotations and provoked reactions and denunciation.

Al-Mesmari held his press conference in one of the halls of Al-Ittihad newspaper, and his sudden and urgent appearance seems to have forced him to borrow a UAE military uniform and suspend its Libyan military ranks, but Libyan observers believe that Al-Mesmari’s appearance carries clear Emirati messages.

Observers considered that al-Mesmari’s statement is unusual and his previous tone, what he declared is the decision of the UAE, which reflects the shift of its position from stealth to public appearance in the battle of Tripoli.

Observers wondered, “What does it mean to host a state, claiming impartiality, a spokesman for a party to the fighting to talk about the developments of the battle, in its territory and even in its capital, if not clearly declare its position.”

The sudden emergence of al-Masmari from the UAE came as a result of the shock from the  GNA forces advance towards Tarhuna, which means Haftar and his supporters in the UAE are expecting the near the fall of Tarhuna, Haftar’s first military base.

The UAE’s position, as reflected by al-Masmari’s remarks, indicates that it has not backed away from Haftar’s support in his current battle. Abu Dhabi, the official supporter of Haftar, has stated its determination to continue fighting and reject dialogue, a message that has not been addressed to Libya but also to the international community.

Observers also assert that the statement of al-Mesmari, specifically as saying that “the military solution is the best solution in Libya,” that the new decision of the UAE in the face of international efforts to stop the war in Libya.

This clearly demonstrates to the world that Haftar has become hostage to the UAE’s decision, as well as an Emirati response by Al-Mesmari, to the UN mission’s claims and the international community to revive the political process.

For his part, the Presidential Council of the Libyan National Accord Government denounced the UAE allowing Ahmed Al-Mesmari to hold a press conference in the capital Abu Dhabi, describing it as a “hostile position.”

The Presidential Council said in a statement that this position indicates “the UAE to allow its capital to be a media platform for the militias who attacked Tripoli.”

He stressed that this act, which he described as condemned in flagrant violation of the Security Council resolution and support for the aggressor to kill Libyans and a signal to continue to commit violations and war crimes.

The council said it expected the countries that support Haftar to review their positions and work to inject blood and take positions that would preserve the stability of Libya, after it became clear the objectives of the aggressor on Tripoli, according to the statement.

The Council affirmed that it will continue defeating Haftar, who he described as the aggressor, regardless of the support provided to him, and said that he holds the legal responsibility of those who support him.

Fighting has been going on the outskirts of Tripoli since the beginning of April between the militias of Haftar, who is trying to control the Libyan capital, and the forces of the GNA, which is recognized internationally.
