Analysis: UAE to undermine the mission of the new government in Yemen

276

Observers highlight the UAE’s intention to escalate tension in Yemen recently to undermine the new government’s mission in the country.

Yemeni writer Yassin Al-Tamimi says, “All signs indicate that the UAE is in a state of violent confrontation with the arrangements reached by the Riyadh Agreement.”

Al-Tamimi believes that these arrangements ultimately consolidate Saudi Arabia’s influence, which may undermine the UAE’s power.

Hostile approach

The UAE’s approach to Yemen is hostile in terms of goals and tools.

At the forefront of these tools are the armed formations operating under the Transitional Council’s influence and the UAE in particular.

The missile attack on Aden airport was not sufficient to contain and domesticate the government, and to turn it into a mere treasurer of groups with opposing goals in the city of Aden.

However, other narratives attribute the attack to the Houthis. Transitional Council began to quote these accounts after it was accused of being involved in its implementation.

No reliable explanation of the nature of the attacks, their source, and the weapons used were provided.

Targeting the government

Attacking the government has become a routine through a series of bombings that indicate the Transitional Government’s continuation and its tools in undermining the security environment for the temporary political capital.

It also attempts to restrict the ministers and prevent raising the Yemeni state’s flags in government facilities.

The Transitional Council doesn’t conceal its role of standing behind these actions.

This state of security chaos caused by the transitional council and its militias may continue for a while.

This is one of the Transitional Council’s forced withdrawal symptoms, which has turned into a political party participating in the government of national unity.

However, this depends on the government’s willingness to restore the government’s position. Likewise, Saudi has to stop its disastrous role in Yemen.

Outlawed Militias

The government’s continued status without security and military influence and the presence of forces under the Transitional Council’s control in Aden represent some serious challenges resulting from the failure to implement the Riyadh Agreement’s military part. However, Saudi Arabia remains the politically and morally responsible party for its implementation and forcing the rebel party to abide by its obligations.

Evidence emerges of the UAE, and Saudi Arabia plans to re-dismantle Yemen and controls its lands and strategic locations.

It is a task that is no longer easy in light of regional and international complications, even as it is involved in supporting the building of a regional alliance dominated by Israel.

The UAE adheres to its perception about the war in Yemen. It continues to support entities that threaten the Yemeni state nonetheless.

Abu Dhabi also continues to adopt ideological positions hostile to the Yemeni legitimacy and its political components.

Undermining peace efforts

There are indications of the UAE’s unease with the recent arrangements in Aden.

And Abu Dhabi wanted to limit the arrangements taking place only to the formation of a government without political will and a national agenda, neither going beyond the return of Parliament and the Presidency, and the reactivation of the role of the temporary political capital, Aden.

Among these indications is the surprise meeting arranged for the head of the Transitional Council in Abu Dhabi, Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi, on Sky News, which broadcasts from Abu Dhabi as part of the confrontation program.

In this meeting, it was required to redraw the red lines in front of the government’s mission and legitimacy and reintroduce the Riyadh Agreement as one of the manifestations of explicit logistical support UAE-backed Transitional Council plan, which aims to re-separate southern Yemen from its north.
