UAE at top of countries spreading sabotage in Libya
The UAE has spared no effort to support any movement that would undermine the effects of the Arab Spring. Likewise, it has supported the war criminal Khalifa Haftar in Libya since its emergence in Benghazi, an important factor for the success of its strategies.
In addition to the political support that Haftar is receiving through Emirati lobbyists in the capitals of international gravity, especially in Washington, which once succeeded in convincing US President Donald Trump, to contact directly with Haftar, but it sought to strengthen his military wing with all the capabilities, the most prominent of which was building Military bases in Libya, including the Al-Khadim and Al-Kharrouba base, the most recent of which is the large military presence at the Al-Jafra base, which was confirmed by the UN experts’ report last week.
In various levels, the UAE is interfering in the Libyan issue, as in the field of oil, for example, it supported the establishment of a parallel oil establishment in Benghazi, and even bought oil shipments by illegal means.
On the political level, it was present in most of the international meetings on Libya, in Paris and Palermo, and even organized special meetings between Haftar and the head of the reconciliation government, Fayez al-Sarraj, last February, the results of which have not been announced yet.
Despite efforts to reconcile the two sides of the equation in Libya, the UAE has not stopped supporting its former Libyan ambassador, Al-Aref Al-Nayed, as a strong candidate to take over a government of national unity to replace the Government of National Accord.
A few days ago, a United Nations report published this month exposed the UAE’s methods of defrauding to support the Haftar militia with military hardware.
A new 400-page United Nations report indicates that the UAE supplied arms to Haftar, in contravention of a 2011 Security Council resolution banning arms supplies to Libya.
The report says that the Irish government sold a warship to a Dutch company in March 2017 at a value of $122,000 and then bought an Emirati company worth $525,000 and re-registered it in Panama as a “leisure boat”, to reach Haftar’s forces with a deal of $1.5 million, and certainly that the UAE She paid all the money.
Not only that, but the UAE has been the main provider of Khalifa Haftar with arms for years to confront the legitimate government in Libya.
This year, more than once, the existence of American weapons sold to the UAE by fighters affiliated with Haftar’s background was revealed, which led to the opening of an American investigation that might lead to the cessation of US military sales to the UAE because Abu Dhabi violated the terms of the end-user’s weapon.
Al-Jakam also said in his confessions that it was Russia that was planning the recent attack on Tripoli.
In the context of the same aggressive Emirati role in Libya, the Supreme Council for the Amazigh of Libya confirmed its rejection of multiple offers from the Emirates, including large sums of money, in exchange for their support for Haftar’s militias or taking a neutral stance towards its forces attack on Tripoli.
A delegation from the Council told an Emirati delegation that Abu Dhabi’s bet on supporting Haftar is a “catastrophic mistake” and will not have any results, as the Berbers reject their control over the country.
The Supreme Council for the Amazigh of Libya is the legal and political representative internally and externally for the Amazigh of Libya, and it is formed after elections in their areas of existence.
On the ground, a military force affiliated with the Libyan government announced, in the last hours, that two of them were killed and three others were wounded, in a bombing carried out by Emirati airlines operating west of the coastal city of Sirte.
The “Sirte Protection and Insurance Force”, in a statement published on its Facebook page, stated that “two martyrs and three wounded people were killed as a result of the shelling of the Emirati warplanes in support of the war criminal (retired Major General Khalifa) Haftar, while targeting the force’s patrol shortly before.”
In early November, 3 members of the same force were injured, as a result of an aerial bombardment carried out by Emirati aircraft, supporting a Haftar march.
In a statement issued at the time, the force stated that the bombing targeted the concentrations of the Internationally Recognized Protection and Insurance Force Sirte.
Since April 4, Tripoli, the headquarters of the Government of National Accord, as well as its surroundings, has witnessed armed battles after Haftar’s forces launched an offensive to take control of them amid a mobilization of government forces.
Last Thursday, eight months after his forces failed to storm the Libyan capital, Haftar announced the start of a “decisive battle” to advance towards the heart of Tripoli, without creating anything new on the ground.
