Reports revealed Egypt’s efforts to counter the UAE’s plot to escalate tension in Libya.
Libyan sources said that Egypt is making comprehensive efforts to prevent Khalifa Haftar from carrying out a large military operation in southern Libya.
The sources stressed that Cairo strongly rejects the situation in Libya sliding into military confrontations again.
This is to cut off the road for any parties to intervene again or drag Cairo into a military record.
According to the sources, the UAE has recently sought to open official communication channels with parties in western Libya, to develop public relations with them.
To compete with regional parties’ influence, they were surprised by a rejectionist position in accusations of being involved in killings inside the Libyan territories.
Foremost among which is the bombing of the military academy in Misrata last year, which killed dozens of Libyan youths.
The sources said that Abu Dhabi is pushing Haftar to launch an attack, to impose itself as a party that seeks to intervene to stop the military attack, if it is carried out.
In order for Abu Dhabi to return as an original party at the negotiating table concerned with the Libyan issue, after it was marginalized from Russia and Egypt moved away from it.
The sources talked about tension in relations between the UAE and Russia regarding what is happening in Libya, due to the Russian-Turkish coordination, far from Abu Dhabi.
A coup in the Egyptian position
The Egyptian position on the Libya file is witnessing a major upheaval after years of Cairo’s alliance with the UAE’s plots.
Egyptian sources revealed arrangements for the planned visit of Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, and the head of the General Intelligence Service, Major General Abbas Kamel, to Tripoli in the coming period.
The sources pointed out that the upcoming visit will take an official and public character, to start work again at the Egyptian Embassy in Tripoli.
Egypt is facing the Emirates that still support Haftar, at a time when Cairo chose to follow the paths of neutrality and wooed the UN-recognized Al-Sarraj government.
Egypt is trying to play the mediator between Tripoli and Benghazi, in light of the continued inability of the United Nations and the international community to confront the Libyan entanglement.
