Outrage over the UAE’s quest to control domestic air transport in Algeria

220

Political and media circles expressed a strong state of anger in Algeria at the UAE’s efforts to control domestic air transport.

Abu Dhabi is seeking to acquire a new domestic air transport company in Algeria the government intends to establish soon.

Wrong and Provocation

The Secretary-General of the Algerian Workers’ Party, Louise Hanoune, stated that such a step is a mistake and a provocation that will have serious consequences.

Hanoun said, “No Algerian will accept an Emirati company due to the dangerous role the Emirati regime plays in the region.”

She pointed to the widespread popular anger in Algeria over the UAE’s signing of the agreement declaring normalization with Israel.

She emphasized that “if this happens, the popular response will be great and at the level of provocation.”

Emirati Conspiracy

The Algerian Minister of Transport, Lazhar Hani, announced a few days ago that a public air transport company would soon be established to operate flights on domestic routes.

The move aims to cover the inability of Air Algerie to meet domestic demand for air transport.

There would ve 36 airports across the country, in preparation for the liberation of the entire domestic air transport sector in the lands.

Hanoun said that these warnings come in the context of indications of the government’s tendency to privatize some public companies in transport, banks and services.

She described this as a “scorched earth policy aimed at eliminating the gains of the revolution and independence.”

She noted that the current government does not have a mandate to privatize enterprises.

The Secretary-General of the Labor Party appreciated Algeria’s continued resistance to normalization, which the UAE is promoting on the Arab side.

This is despite the economic, social and political fragility that may make it difficult for Algeria to face the wave of normalization that other countries have been involved in.
